Matthew 5: 1 - 12 If we wish to be spiritually happy (blessed) then the Lord requires us to live a certain way. We must 1: Be poor in spirit, or empty ourselves of self so we may be filled with Christ. 2: Be mourners, or sorry and truly retentive of our sin and compassionate for those that are lost. 3: Be meek, or to be mild of temper, gentle, not easily provoked, yielding, all these, even under persecution. 4: Hunger and thirst for righteousness, or have an undying motivation and desire to draw close to our LORD, by being in His Word, meditating and praying without ceasing. 5: Be merciful, or kind to those when you think they don’t deserve it, forgiving others of offenses and trespasses, not seeking for revenge or getting even. 6: Be pure in heart, or yielding our heart to God, filling our heart with the Word of God and living a life of sacrifice. 7: Be peacemaker, or be quick to resolve issues with one another, practicing brotherly kindness, not letting the sun go down on anger, not holding grudges. 7: Suffer persecution, if we are following Christ we are or will be facing persecution, we are called to suffer, but yet endure. Men may speak all evil against us, hate us or even physically abuse us, but this is nothing that the prophets of old did not go through, or the saints of our time, or even our Christ, who suffered most of all for all. We are to rejoice, like jailed saints, let the Light of Christ shine in us, and great will be our reward in heaven.
